When to go to Vietnam?
Due to the hot and humid climate, the best time to visit Vietnam is during the dry season, between November and April. The average temperature is between 25°C and 30°C.
Vietnam has a hot and humid climate all year long, a tropical climate in the North and a subtropical climate in the South, there are two distinct seasons, the dry season and the wet/monsoon season. Depending on the region, these two seasons don't occur at the same time of the year; the monsoon season runs from May to October in the North and South of the country, but in the center it runs from August to January.
In the North, the weather is cool and dry from November to April. In Hanoi, temperatures don't exceed 20°C. The hot and humid season runs from May to October, with heavy rainfalls in July and August. Therefore, it isn't really recommended to visit there at this time of year.
In the centerof the country, the rainy season only starts in August and ends in January. Therefore, we recommend travelling to this part of the country during the dry season, between February and June.
In the South, the monsoon occurs from May to November, bringing with it both heat and humidity as well as a high tropical storm risk between August and October. The dry and sunnier season from December to April is therefore more suitable for a trip to Vietnam. Average temperatures are around 22°C to 28°C, with March and April being the hottest months.
However, the water temperature remains high all year round across the entire coastline, varying between 25°C and 28°C.
Overall, the best time to travel to Vietnam is from November to April, during the dry season. You can still visit the country anytime of the year but beware of the rain from May to September and the typhoon season between August and September.
