When to go to Sicily?
The best seasons to visit Sicily are spring (April to June) and autumn (September and October). The climate is mild, around 25°C during these periods. The pleasant temperatures, and the mild climate, allow for sporting activities and basking in the warm Sicilian waters.
On this island, autumn and winter are mild and bright. Temperatures are ideal in spring when the vegetation is bursting with vigour and colour. By summer, arid temperatures have dried it out. This torrid heat is due to the sirocco, the African wind that buffets the island with temperatures up to 40°C. Being so close to the mainland, the wind brings with it the sand and heat of East Africa. In addition, various reef structures produce their own climatic diversity throughout Sicily. In winter, the temperature at higher altitude can fall to 0°C, while in summer the Mediterranean breeze tempers the heat. Therefore, planning is essential to ward off the vagaries of the Sicilian climate: Bring sunglasses in winter and sweaters in summer if you are hiking the peaks. The dolce vita of Sicily is punctuated by these climatic anomalies, which do nothing to rob the island of its charm.
