When to go to Réunion?
The best time to discover Réunion is the dry season from May to November when temperatures on the coast are between 18°C and 26°C. The wet season from November to April should be avoided because the rains are extremely severe with risks of cyclones.
Located in the southern hemisphere, Réunion enjoys a humid, tropical climate with intense sunshine on the coast all year round. The year is divided into two seasons: the drier and cooler season from May to November and the warmer rainy season from November to April. During the rainy season, precipitation can be very violent but is usually short-lived. The risks of tropical cyclones are particularly high during the months of January and February. The temperatures of 25°C to 33°C are higher than during the dry season. We don’t recommend this season for your trip to Réunion The best of the dry season extends from May to November. Although it is known as the dry season, it may rain during this period, and the east coast of the island is also subject to trade winds. Temperatures vary between 18°C and 26°C. Note that in the centre of the island, temperatures fall with altitude and it is not unusual for the minimum temperature to sink to 0°C and to reach a maximum of 25°C. It can even snow on the mountain peaks above 3,000 m altitude. The water temperature varies throughout the year between 22°C and 27°C.
We recommend May to November to discover the island and enjoy its beaches and hiking.
