When to go to Jamaica?
Located to the south of Cuba, Jamaica, the third largest Caribbean island by size, enjoys a tropical, humid climate, with relatively consistent temperatures all throughout the year. You can distinguish between two seasons : a dry season, which stretches from the month of January up until the month of April, and a wetter season between the month of May and the month of November.
The month of May, then September, October and November are the times during which the heaviest rainfall is recorded. It is in particular between the month of August and the month of November that the hurricane season takes place, even if the majority of cyclones identified during this season rarely affect the Jamaican territory. The month of October remains the least recommended time for a
trip to Jamaica , as it is the time when rain is at its heaviest and when the risk of hurricanes is at its highest.
Despite some rainfall, the wet season is still a good time for visits. The air is more saturated with moisture, but rain still generally gathers on hilly areas. It is stronger and heavier in the mountains and especially in the Blues Mountains range, which peaks at almost 2,300m altitude. Despite these rainy intervals, temperatures stay high, with maximum temperatures at around the 33°C mark, and there is significant sunshine. Rain, while strong in October, has the advantage of lasting for a short time only. If you are thinking of exploring the island during this time, it is however advised as a precaution to keep yourself informed about possible disruption to the weather, and to regularly take a look at weather reports. It is the ideal time to visit Kingston – the capital – in peace, or other towns such as Nine Miles, where Bob Marley was born, or even Spanish Town, the former capital. You will also be able to enjoy the island peacefully as tourists become a lot more scarce during these humid months.
If you wish to make the most of the beaches and the drier heat, the best time to explore Jamaica is still nevertheless the period running from December to April, with a preference for the months of January, February and March. It is the ideal time to visit, but it is especially good for enjoying the beautiful fine sand beaches, the warm, turquoise waters, as well as going on a hike in the mountains surrounded by lush plants, or even trying one’s hand at scuba diving. With day temperatures of 31°C on average and night temperatures which never fall below 22°C, going on holiday to Jamaica is especially enjoyable, particularly for those who are looking to flee the harshness of winter in France.
Jamaica can be visited all throughout the year with a preference for the months from December to April, an ideal time to enjoy the beaches and avoid the downpours. It always feels hot on this island located right in the heart of the Caribbean sea, where day temperatures vary between 25°C and 31°C. This constant heat will help to make your holiday a very special one.
