When to go to Dominican Republic?
The Dominican Republic has a tropical climate with two distinct seasons: The rainy season from May to October and the dry season from December to April. It is hot all year round, with maximum temperatures ranging between 30°C and 32°C.
The rainy season is characterised by intense but often short-lived downpours, most of which occur at the end of the afternoon. The sun still shines during the day. At this time, temperatures are at their highest between 23°C and 32°C. The constant heat and humidity are sometimes difficult to bear. We don’t recommend visiting the Dominican Republic at this time.
The dry season, from December to April is the most pleasant season to consider a stay on the island, because the atmosphere is much drier, the rains being more scarce. The air is more breathable, since the temperatures are a little cooler (between 20°C and 30°C). This is the most enjoyable time for a relaxing holiday on the country’s beautiful beaches. If you want to explore the mountains, the chance of rain is ever present, and seasonal variations in climate are less marked here. This is also the case in the north-east of the country. During the dry season, rainfall is more frequent than in the southern part of the island.
Swimming in warm water is possible throughout the year as the temperature varies between 26°C in February and 29°C in August.
If it’s winter sun you want, then visit the Dominican Republic from December to April. Temperatures will be bearable and there will be virtually no rain. And if you’re still not sure, consider February for the Santo Domingo carnival - an explosion of colour, music and incredible costumes.
