When to go to China?
Owing to the sheer size of its territory, China is subject to a wide range of climates. Winters can be frosty in the regions of the north and the summers tropical in the south. This therefore makes it difficult to determine the best time for your trip to China as everything depends on the region being visited. As a general rule, it is preferable to visit in spring – especially April – as well as the start of Autumn.
North East: the winters here are very cold and last for almost 6 months of the year. Temperatures start to be warm in April and are very hot during the summer months but come with rain.
Beijing : It is very cold in winter. This cold weather intensifies with wind coming from Mongolia which also brings dust with it. Summers here are scorching and wet. Autumn here is warm and good for walks. The months of April and May are also preferred months for visiting Beijing.
: North West : the sun is ever present all throughout the year with very cold, dry and often windy winters and mild summers. It rains very little and the light showers fall during the summer months.
South West : Tibet is characterised by a very harsh climate with constant winds and icy temperatures in winter. Temperatures warm up in spring – an ideal time to go trekking – and are hot in summer.
South : here the climate is subtropical, mild and humid in winter, hot and wet in summer. It is best to avoid this region in summer as the air here is stifling and humid.
East China coast: an oceanic climate with 4 highly distinct seasons.
